Role
UX/UI Design Apprentice
Type
Design systems & research
Environment
Agile, cross-functional
What I did
- Analyzed the existing design system and evaluated component usage through qualitative research, helping shape new reusable UI patterns that improved design consistency.
- Mapped key user journeys and interpreted user needs, providing recommendations that streamlined development workflows.
- Facilitated weekly critiques and engagement sessions, communicating design concepts and research insights across the team.
- Introduced evidence-led improvements to component documentation, making it easier for designers and developers to adopt new standards.
- Coordinated with product managers and developers in a fast-paced agile environment.
Government work is confidential — visuals can't be shared here, but I'm happy to walk through my process and what I learned in an interview.
A design system is a product whose users are other designers and developers. Documentation quality matters as much as component quality — if people can't find it or trust it, they rebuild it.
